Removal of the diseased parts

The diseased shoulder joint is accessed by making an incision in the skin of the upper arm and partially removing the joint capsule, i.e. the connective tissue surrounding the joint. An electric or pneumatic saw is used to separate and remove the head from the upper arm bone.

The socket is now clearly visible. Old capsular tissue and cartilage are removed from it and it is prepared using a cutter so that healthy bone tissue is visible. This ensures secure anchoring of the artificial socket.
