General facts

Today a great number of implants for artificial shoulder replacement are available. However, the difference between individual models and manufacturers is small, all products are technologically sophisticated and good.

The surgeon therefore selects the right implant. His decision depends on the diagnosis, his own experience with the individual products and the suitability of the selected implant for the patient.
That is why specific patient requests based on recommendations by friends or Internet searches are usually not taken into consideration. Such exceptions may minimise the success of the operation because the surgeon lacks practical experience with a new implant.

Patients who particularly wish to receive a specific implant should seek a surgeon who routinely works with the desired product.

An artificial shoulder joint usually consists of the following components:

Stem
Head
Glenoid

Depending on the diagnosis and the course of the disease, various models for shoulder joint replacement are selected. The following implant types are available:

Total prosthesis
Short stem prosthesis
Inverse prosthesis
Fracture prosthesis
Revision prosthesis
