Bone fracture

An inauspicious fall on the shoulder may cause a fracture of the head or the shaft of the upper arm bone or the bony projections in the shoulder joint. Such fractures may separate the upper arm bone from the shoulder blade. This results not only in pain and restricted mobility but also damage to the cartilage.

These fractures – also referred to as comminuted fractures – are treated with a fracture prosthesis  It is used to fixate the bone pieces (fragments), replace the destroyed joint surfaces and restore the function of the shoulder joint.
