Shoulder joint

General Patient Information

Fracture prosthesis

The head of the upper arm bone is susceptible to compound fracture injuries: a fall on the hand, the stretched arm or the shoulder itself may cause a complicated fracture.

Such complicated injuries are often treated with a fracture prosthesis. It is designed in such a way that the small bone fragments can be reliably attached to the tendons of the rotator cuff with surgical wires or threads.
This creates favourable conditions for regaining freedom from pain and active mobility of the injured shoulder. Nevertheless, patients do not always re-attain the previous range of motion and have to accept some restriction of the shoulder joint.
